Our Story & Mission

The Beginning of Our Journey

KATAN REAL ESTATE LTD was established in July 2009 when our founder, Penelope Ashworth, recognised a significant gap in the UK rental market. After helping her elderly parents navigate the challenging process of finding suitable accommodation following her father's mobility decline, she realised that seniors faced unique barriers that traditional estate agents simply weren't equipped to address.

What started as a personal mission to help one family quickly evolved into a comprehensive service designed to support seniors across England, Wales, and Scotland. By January 2010, we had successfully assisted our first 50 families, and word-of-mouth recommendations began driving steady growth throughout the following years.

Our Evolution & Growth

The period from 2012 to 2018 marked significant expansion as we developed partnerships with occupational therapists, accessibility specialists, and community organisations. This collaborative approach allowed us to offer truly comprehensive support that goes far beyond traditional property services.

In March 2019, we achieved a major milestone by becoming the first UK rental agency to receive accreditation from the Centre for Ageing Better, recognising our innovative approach to senior housing. This recognition validated our commitment to evidence-based practices and person-centred service delivery.
